Sean Strickland had a rough time growing up. His father struggled with substance abuse and passed away from cancer. Therefore, whenever the fighter sees someone struggling to ride away from their addiction, Strickland swoops in to offer a supporting hand. This time, it was none other than the Raiders MVP, Maxx Crosby.

Recently, Crosby talked to GQ Sports and provided some insights into his journey toward sobriety. The NFL defender realized the error in his ways in 2020 and opted for rehabilitation. With about three years away from his past addictions, the LA Raiders’ captain revealed his experience with the world. Without a doubt, he was backed by the supporting hands of the entire world. Not only Strickland, but also Bruce Buffer, Megan Olivi, Cody Garbrandt, and many others showed support for the player.

The LA captain recently told GQ Sports that he had had quite a few excuses to revert back to drinking. He had a torn shoulder and a broken hand. But he kept going on. “My first year of sobriety was the hardest year of my life…” he said. However, he went on to complete three years without a drop of alcohol in his system.

Crosby further revealed a lesson he seemingly got from Kobe Bryant. He added, “I got this from Kobe [Bryant]: I make agreements with myself. I’ll be in the building by this time, I will do all these different things: I will hit this speed on the field, work up to this. No one wants to get up at 5am every day in the offseason, but I’m doing it. I go into that building and it’s empty as hell. But I don’t look at it as, ‘Damn I have to be here.’ I’m like, ‘I am lucky to be here.’”

As for Strickland, addiction issues are something that hits close to home. The UFC 293 main event star opened up about it during a  recent appearance on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’

Sean Strickland reveals ugly personal history with addiction issues

On episode #143 of the JRE MMA Show, ‘Tarzan’ shocked Joe Rogan with a revelation. He confessed that his own father had struggles with dr*g abuse. The problems that he had to face at a young age made him resist the world of euphoria through substances. But things don’t end there.

Strickland further disclosed that his father was once lying on the bed with a .45 beside him. However, his father’s suicidal tendencies did not earn young Sean’s sympathy. Later on, his father passed away due to cancer aged around 50. He talked about how miserable the situation was. His father’s addiction took their relationship to ruins and Strickland wasn’t able to sympathize with him.

The fighter’s past has indeed turned him towards a dr*g free life. While UFC’s ‘Tarzan’ probably felt powerless with his father, he certainly isn’t the same now. He extended his supported through social media to boost Crosby’s morale in his journey towards a life of sobriety.
