If you were to make a Venn diagram of Taylor Swift fans and football fans, you would expect there to be very little overlap between them. However, the recent relationship between the pop star and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has brought the two worlds together.

This has elicited strong reactions from football fans especially those who are upset at the attention Swift gets whenever she attends Chiefs games. And former PFL light heavyweight champion Sean O’Connell, who was a former collegiate footballer was asked what he made of their relationship in a recent exclusive interview with EssentiallySports.
Sean O’Connell gives his thoughts on the Taylor Swift – Travis Kelce relationship
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made their relationship public back in October 2023. Kelce has revealed that he invited Swift to one of his games when he went to watch the pop star perform at a concert in Kansas City after which sparks flew between them and they started dating.
After they went public with their relationship, Taylor Swift has been attending Kelce’s games regularly. A section of football fans were upset that the pop star was getting a lot of attention at the games and felt Swift was a distraction.
Sean O’Connell, however, was all in favor of this relationship. The PFL light heavyweight champion felt that the relationship between the two superstars in their fields was a good thing and like any other couple, they were trying to support each other. He hoped Swift fans would appreciate football and NFL fans would be exposed to the phenomenon that is Taylor Swift.
“I think it’s great that both of those people are incredibly famous and good at what they do, but at the end of the day they are just people trying to find love and happiness in a difficult world. I hope Swifties get a little taste of football and maybe football fans get a little exposure with the Taylor swift hype machine,” O’Connell opined. This sentiment was also echoed by David Letterman in a recent video posted on his social media.
Letterman wants fans to stop complaining about Swift-Kelce
Legendary former late-night host and football fan David Letterman too came out recently in favor of the Swift-Kelce relationship and suggested fans on both sides keep their animosity aside and celebrate the relationship as it brought two distinct worlds together and was a net good for both sides.

“Here’s Taylor Swift, who is a glowing bright light of goodness in the world, and she starts dating Kelce. The people say, ‘Oh, no, no, no, don’t bother us. We’re all caught up in football. We don’t want Taylor and football.’ And the Taylor Swift people, the Swifties are saying, ‘Oh, we don’t want a footballer in here.’ And I say to both camps, this is such a lovely thing. Shut up!” Letterman said in a clip.
