UFC stars, like the rest of us, probably have an affinity toward Netflix. After the Netflix documentary release of the UFC icon, Conor McGregor, a huge chunk of the audience, appreciated the presentation. Most might agree that ‘McGregor Forever’ appealed to them quite a lot. However, UFC fighters are not only about creating stuff on Netflix. A number of them serve as viewers of the platform’s content as well.

Recently, the famed UFC Bantamweight, Sean O’Malley appeared with one more episode of his podcast. Apart from discussing a volley of other topics, ‘Sugar’ and his co-host Daniel dived deep into the Netflix TV series, ‘Quarterback’. Although Daniel stated he hadn’t watched it yet, O’Malley happily revealed his opinion on Tim Rumpff’s presentation about NFL stars.

Sean O’Malley realizes the tough responsibilities of a Quarterback

O’Malley started off the discussion stating, “Oh Quarterback on Netflix dude. I talked about it a little bit with Tim. But Tim’s like, ‘Sports are dumb’. Have you watched it?”. His co-host Daniel mentioned that he hadn’t been through it yet. However, he also said, I’m excited for Patrick Mahomes”. Most sports fans in the US are aware of the outstanding prowess of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. But watching him on the silver screen would be a new experience for Daniel.

‘Sugar’ then revealed his appreciation for Tim Rumpff’s work, stating, “Bro. It is good. Marcus Mariota, Kirk Cousins. He’s a character, bro! “. After this, ‘Sugar’ went on to a detailed review of what a quarterback actually has to deal with. He stated, “It’s wild what goes into that quarterback position. You can be an offensive lineman and know, ‘Ok. I have to block this guy’. The quarterback knows every position”.

O’Malley further credited quarterbacks, stating, “Whatever, a halfback, a receiver, he knows every route and plays that they memorize and have to repeat through the heads. It is insane, dude. I’m like, It’s wild, coz they’re athletic geniuses”.

Most fans with knowledge of football will agree with ‘Sugar’ here. Due to the insane level of efficiency required, it’s quite understandable why the quarterback position has created the most notable stars in the game, like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

Quarterback touched the football-obsessed side of Sean O’Malley

Apart from the analysis and opinion about ‘Quarterbacks’, O’Malley also revealed that it touched the football-crazy side of himself. He expressed how he felt connected to the visuals showcased in the Netflix TV series. I used to be obsessed with football, and watching the kind of footage they have, gets you fired up. Watching the wives watch the game, watching Marcus and his friend watch the game”, said ‘Sugar’.

Fans might also get an idea about O’Malley’s wholehearted appreciation for it from his next words. He said, “It almost makes me tear up a bit when they’re so into it. They get excited when they win and sad when they lose. It is such a good fuc*ing show and they gotta keep doing it.”

Although the ‘quarterbacks’ in the TV series were nowhere connected to MMA, still a few emotions are common in all sports. It’s evident that O’Malley, being a noted sportsperson himself, connected to those “excited” and “sad” emotions quite deeply.

Have you completed watching ‘Quarterbacks’ too? Would you like to support O’Malley’s opinions about it?

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
