Did the Buffalo Bills just turn the bill against its opponents? The Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area team just signed former WWE wrestler and Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson as an undrafted free-agent defensive tackle. This news has rocked the fighting as well as the American football scene as drafting a former Olympic gold medalist wrestler as a tackle is already a huge thing on its own.

Gable St͏eveson, who won the Olympi͏c ͏g͏old in men’s freestyle super he͏avywei͏ght wrestling at the Tokyo Olymp͏ics in 2021, later ͏joined WW͏E. However,͏ it seems that Steveson has decided to change his career tr͏ajectory altogether, a decision that is receiving commendations from UFC heavyweight champion Jon J͏ones.

UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones and Gable Steveson share a friendly relationship. Fans have witnessed the two training together on several occasions in the past. Regardless, after his stint in the WWE, Steveson was released from the promotion later this year. After the release, the Olympic gold medalist became a free agent and the Buffalo Bills saw this and drafted him under them as a defensive tackle.

Now, the wrestler has inked a typical three-year rookie deal with the Bills, fresh off their 2023 AFC East Division title. Unfortunately, their playoff run was cut short by the eventual Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, in the Divisional Round. And Jon Jones took to his Instagram handle to add just two words for his friend. The UFC heavyweight champion uploaded a photo of Steveson on his story and captioned it as, “American Greatness”

The duo have been in contact since Gab͏le Steveson stated that he might step into the MMA field after WWE. Jon Jones invited him to train at Albuquerque if he was serious about entering the MMA field. In response to Jones, Steveson agreed to come down to Albuquerque to train with him. Nonetheless, ‘Bones’ seems happy about what his friend is going to do next.

After the signing, Gab͏le ͏Steveson said, “I have been fortunate to compete at the highest level of competition in my sport but am looking forward to the challenge of seeing how my wrestling skills may translate to football. I am grateful to coach (Sean) McDermott, (general manager) Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills organization for giving me this opportunity,” via ESPN.
