Georges St-Pierre is one of the most renowned names in the world of MMA. Many consider the Canadian to be the greatest ever in the sport. St-Pierre also boasts a remarkable record of holding the UFC Welterweight championship for five straight years. Recently, ‘Rush’ visited the PFL Championships at the Hulu Theatre of Madison Square Garden to support his fellow countryman and fighter Olivier Aubin-Mercier. The noted MMA fighter, Brendan Loughnane, secured a win over Bubba Jenkins to claim the featherweight title. Kayla Harrison also got the Women’s Lightweight back to her name and bagged the third $1M prize in the span of the past three years.

St-Pierre was one of the highest-paid fighters in the UFC at his time. However, he also noticed the issue of fighters receiving very meager payments for fights. In his efforts to curb these unwanted issues, ‘Rush’ joined the MMA Athletes Association in 2016. He took further steps to improve the revenue disparity.

So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
