The biggest unsettled debate in the world of combat sports is the question of who is the greatest of all time. While there are a few names that come to mind, according to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, there is one name that stands out above all else – and that fighter happens to be a current UFC fighter as well. Over the years, fighters like Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, and BJ Penn have etched their names in the history books, entering the popular GOAT debate. But Rogan seems to think that UFC Heavyweight champ Jon Jones surpasses all of them when it comes to picking being the ‘Lionel Messi‘ or the ‘Michael Jordan‘ of MMA.

One of the biggest podcasts in the entire world, The Joe Rogan Experience, has seen some of the biggest names from different walks of life share their experiences on the show. The host, Joe Rogan, is a man who possesses vast knowledge about nearly anything and everything. So, when Canadian professor Gad Saad came on the show and asked Rogan who he thought was the equivalent of Messi or Michael Jordan in the world of MMA, Rogan named Jon Jones, without much deliberation.

There’s a few. There’s a few that are in that conversation. I think the number one consensus greatest of all time is Jon Jones. Cause Jon Jones just went up and easily won the heavyweight title, with a first-round submission. Easily. Just took the guy down, strangled him – quick.“, said Rogan, referencing Jon Jones’ first heavyweight fight against Ciryl Gane

Joe Rogan settles the debate – Ciryl Gane’s defeat & The Only loss for Jones

The current HW champ made quick work of Gane and won the title quite easily. Rogan proceeded to speak highly of Jones and the way he made it all look effortless.

And the way he did it was like so extraordinary. His control of distance, his management of the space, like the way he set it up… it’s… it’s really tough to argue that he is not the greatest of all time.“, added the UFC commentator.

It’s quite easy to get replaced in a sport like MMA where every fighter is hungry for the GOAT title. However, Jones managed to remain undefeated throughout his time. The only loss that he suffered was a DQ against Matt Hamill in the TUF 10 finale, back in 2009, that came from an allegedly illegal elbow strike.

Undefeated as a Light Heavyweight, had one defeat that was disqualification – that’s a 100% bulls**t. He was on top of this guy, smashing him. Beating the f**k out of him. But they said that he did 12-to-6 elbows, which are the dumbest f*****g ever rule in MMA.”, remarked Rogan, disputing the call that gave Jones his one and only defeat in the UFC.
