This match was like a doorway for ‘El Matador’ to the coveted featherweight title of the UFC. Topuria was so astute in his mind that he would defeat Emmett at all costs.

To his surprise, the former Real-Madrid captain and soccer sensation, Sergio Ramos was also there to witness his fellow Spaniard take on the American fighter. Topuria did not disappoint his fans as well as Ramos as ‘El Matador’ showcased such a dominant performance that night that a judge gave him a rare score of (50-42).

After their fight, Ramos went backstage to meet Topuria. The former Real Madrid captain congratulated ‘El Matador’ with a hug. UFC’s official page jumped on the bandwagon to share a tweet about the incident. “It’s all love backstage with @SergioRamos and @TopuriaIlia after his huge victory #UFCJacksonville.” said the official handle of the UFC.

Ilia Topuria was interviewed by The MMA Hour and at that interview, Topuria explained why and how Sergio Ramos came to visit him at the fight. “One year ago or something like that, he texted me after one of my fights. He started to follow me [on social media], text me, and for this fight he told me I’m going to watch you, to support you,” said Topuria.

He further added “I was like, ‘Really? You will come?’ He told me, ‘Yes, I’m on vacation. I didn’t have any football match, soccer match, so I’m going to go to watch you fight.” Ramos delivered on his promise, and ͏in return, he enjoyed a compelling five-round performance from Topuria, potentially ͏propelling him into contention for the top spot.
