Martial artists are almost universally respected, including by other athletes. Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, is a huge fan of Khabib Nurmagomedov, whose fights he woke up at 4 in the morning to watch. Not to mention him gifting Francis Ngannou a $134,00 watch last year when the UFC champion turned boxer and went to Saudi Arabia for his boxing debut against heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, which he lost by a one-point split decision. And Ronaldo was in attendance to witness it live.

Erling Haaland seems to be making the most of the short break in the Premier League season. The Norwegian has started practice with the first team in Abu Dhabi, after recovering from a stubborn foot injury that has kept him out since the beginning of the year.

And during his Abu Dhabi sojourn, Haaland bumped into former UFC lightweight champion and MMA icon Khabib Nurmagomedov. He posted a picture of him and Khabib and expressed pleasure at having met the legend. “Great to meet this legend here in Abu Dhabi,” Haaland wrote. However, the soccer star tagged the wrong account before correcting it, instead of Nurmagomedov’s official Instagram account, to the delight of fans.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
