Joe Rogan is enjoying unparalleled popularity on Spotify as ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ tops the podcast list. The show has a massive global following which made it all the more shocking when Meghan Markle’s ‘Archetypes’ briefly dethroned JRE in 2022. The Duchess of Sussex hosted her friend and tennis icon Serena Williams in the maiden episode of the show and leapfrogged JRE on Spotify’s list. However, all that is coming to an end as Meghan Markle and Spotify are ending their deal. What is even more interesting is that Rogan may have predicted this fallout months ago.
According to the latest reports, Spotify has parted ways with Archewell Audio, the production company under Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. They had reportedly entered into a $25 million-worth deal with Spotify during the pandemic. The parties cut the deal short later and, per a joint announcement from them last Thursday, has now been completely annulled.

Interestingly, Rogan had hinted at the possibility of this happening all the way back in November 2022. The 55-year-old was talking to his guest, Neal Brennan on episode #1898 of JRE when he gave his expert prediction of the recent news.

It seems the UFC commentator’s words have turned prophetic. While Spotify and Archewell Studios parted ways gracefully in the public eye, things may not have been as smooth behind the scenes. Bill Simmons, founder, and CEO of Ringer and head of Spotify’s podcast innovation and monetization, went after the Royal couple.
“‘The F****** Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched them,” said Simmons. He had also been vocal about his frustrations with sharing the Spotify podcast scene with Prince Harry. Archewell Studios could only produce one ‘Archetypes’ and a 30-minute 2020 holiday special as part of their deal with Spotify.
