Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey once beat the European Authorities in their own game as they tried to gain an unfair advantage for their own athlete. The bantamweight fighter, who pioneered women’s MMA sports, boasts of a long illustrious career. Not only did she win world championships but also proved her mantel at the Olympics. Further, her never giving up attitude became the trademark of her career, which she inculcated in her younger days. The same propelled her to the champion’s status wherever she fought. Fighting and overcoming adversities thrown at her made her distinct from other athletes. The same spirit was on display as she navigated her way through the officials’ theatrics at the British Open 2007.

Notably, the ‘Rowdy’ struggled to keep her weight in check as she transitioned to competing at the senior level. As a result, she had to move up to the 70 kg category while she starved and drained herself to maintain the weight. To realize her Olympic dream, the then 20-year-old went to the European circuit and her first stop was the British Open.

However, the officials rescheduled her semifinal bout against the home-grown athlete ahead of the break to put her at a disadvantage.

Halfway through the semifinal match, both athletes tumbled to the mat. The 12-2 record holder landed on her stomach with her opponent on top of her. Before she could clinch her jaw, she threw up on the floor.
