“The Diamond” had expressed a desire to compete; however, he was clear that he was looking to be well compensated. Ben Askren trashes Dustin Poirier
The former Olympian in Askren is one of the most active fighters on social media, despite retiring from the sport. He shared his views on the news that Poirier had decided against making the trip to “Fight Island”. Ben Askren pulled no punches in expressing his disappointment with the cancelation.

Several MMA fans share a similar viewpoint to that of Ben, especially considering the high stakes nature of the fight. A win over Tony Ferguson would guarantee a title shot in the 155 lb division. Also, Poirier has scalped wins over the former champion in his impressive 5-1 run that led to a title shot.

Tony Ferguson would also have been keen to scrap against Poirier, considering his own ranking. “El Cucuy” suffered his first loss since late 2012 when he was TKO’ed on the feet against Justin Gaethje. Moreover, the loss snapped a 12-fight winning streak and sent Ferguson back to the drawing board.
