Now, the company has elected to hand a championship opportunity to Megan Anderson for December’s UFC 256.

The Australian fighter holds a 3-2 record at featherweight in the UFC and all three wins have come via first-round finishes.

Following her last win in February via a power-packed punch, Anderson staked a claim for the belt. However, at the same event, Felicia Spencer too claimed a win too. In her favor, she holds a previous win over Anderson.

Amanda Nunes wishes to extend dominance at featherweight

Amanda Nunes expressed her admiration for both Anderson and ‘Feenom’, with the former getting the first crack at the belt. This also marked ‘The Lioness’ maiden 145 lbs defense.

Spencer put up a brave showing at UFC 250. Now, the onus is on Anderson to do what no one has done for over half a decade.

Any record pales when compared to that of ‘The Lioness’, who is unbeaten in 11 matches. The UFC has tried to get flyweight fighters to move and fight her at bantamweight, yet she has reigned supreme and undoubtedly wants to extend the dominance across featherweight too.

‘The Lioness’, who started as a bantamweight, is proving unstoppable even for competitors who are natural featherweights. She annihilated Cris Cyborg in mere seconds to claim the belt. And following her maiden title defense, it appeared she had just walked out of the locker room after the fifth round.

This is a telling sign of the dominance, prowess, and conditioning Anderson will have to contend with in December.

What do you make of the UFC’s choice to let Nunes defend her featherweight belt yet again in 2020 and have no bantamweight defenses for the year? Also, does Megan Anderson have the game to make her match competitive or will another one bite the dust?
