Mike Perry (14-6) will return to the Octagon at UFC 255 against former welterweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (28-15, 1 NC). The scheduled fight will be at welterweight and was confirmed by ESPN via multiple sources.

Perry last fought in the cage against Mickey Gall and got a unanimous decision win over him. However, Lawler hasn’t had the best outings off late. The former champ is on a four-fight skid, losing to the likes of Neil Magny, Ben Askren, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Colby Covington. Perry is 2-2 in his last four fights.

While Platinum Perry has had his fair share of troubles in the past, a fight with Robbie Lawler is relatively high-profile. Lawler isn’t the fighter he once was but is a former champion nonetheless. Beating him would be a big boost to Perry’s credibility in the cage.

UFC 255 also will be headlined by two title fights. First, a Women’s Strawweight bout between champion Valentina Schevchenko and Jennifer Maia. Second, a fight for Deiveson Figuerdo’s Flyweight Title. His challenger will be former Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt.

Mike Perry piles on to Lawler’s losing streak?

Even though most fans will root for Lawler due to his status, the truth may be ugly here. Perry looks strong right now. While we have seen his fallibilities in past fights, especially the two he lost prior to the Gall win, he is the favorite against Robbie Lawler. His failings haven’t been as monumental as Lawler’s, who has been looking outmatched.

The Askren loss remains mired in controversy. Perry, on the other hand, looks to be more fluid inside the cage. He used his experience to beat Gall, but the same won’t come in handy against Lawler. Even in his decline, Lawler has fought the top names in the division.

Lawler doesn’t have the same explosive ability we once saw him dominate with. Nonetheless, expect this to be a great striking matchup between these two men. Either way, the fans definitely win this.
