BREAKING: UFC Fight Canceled as Fighter Faints Ahead of Weigh-ins

UFC Vegas 10 card has met with unfortunate news. The flyweight bout between Tyson Nam and Matt Schnell has been canceled. The UFC officials confirmed that weight management was the reason for the bout to get canceled. This was first reported by Marc Raimondi from ESPN.

The flyweight bout between the two fighters promised to be an exciting encounter. Tyson Nam was in form again as his last fight with Zarrukh Adashev ended in 32 seconds. This knockout victory came after he suffered two consecutive losses. 

Schnell, on the other hand, was on a four-fight win streak which included two finishes. Most recently, Schnell succumbed to an unfortunate knockout loss against Alexandre Pantoja. This is the first time that Schnell has missed weight in his UFC career.

Matt Schnell suffers a concussion while cutting weight

The incident occurred at around six in the morning. Schnell had about two pounds to cut in the morning to reach the Flyweight limit. As Aaron Phillips’ tweet read, “He had 2lbs to go today. Matt put his hands on his knees and took a deep breath, he [fainted] and fell towards hitting his head on the scale and wall, and dizzied for several seconds.”

The tweet added that following the incident, Schnell’s condition did not get better. The Louisiana native faced memory loss, extreme light sensitivity, migraines, inability to walk by himself, and signs of extreme dehydration.

The Concussion, coupled with the extreme dehydration because of the weight cut, meant that Schnell could not recover. Schnell also could not answer questions he normally would. Matt’s coaches decided that it would be in the best interest of the fighter to pull him out of the card. 

Schnell was rushed to the hospital, where he is now being monitored. Schnell vs Nam was set to be a featured bout on the prelims of the UFC vegas 10 card. The bantamweight fight between Julia Avila and Sijara Eubanks is now the replacement. This is being reflected on the fight card on ESPN.

UFC Vegas 10 is headed by Michelle Waterson and Hill. It will take place on Saturday night.
