The Bantamweight division has quickly become one of the most stacked weight class in the promotion. UFC President Dana White has avoided announcing a contender for the Russian Champion. However, as UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs Edgar wrapped up, White finally conceded to Sterling’s stake at the title shot.

Moreover, it was unclear as to why Dana White was non-committal regarding granting Sterling an immediate shot. The MMA community speculated that Henry Cejudo was possibly interested in throwing his name into the hat.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s [going to be], it’s more than likely going to be Sterling,”

Aljamain Sterling has accrued impressive wins and finishes against elite 135-pound fighters in the organization. Not to mention, he holds a Suloev Stretch submission win over Cody Stamann that won ‘Submission of the Year’ in 2019. The MMA community has been campaigning for Sterling to attain his shot that the strap.

Cody Garbrandt: ‘No Love’

The former champion rarely has a pleasant word for his contemporaries as he prepares to move down the 125-pounds. During his time in the division, he was on par to scrap against Sterling, which ultimately failed to materialize. He now has his sights set on trying to dethrone Deiveson Figueiredo, who has looked unstoppable.

Garbrandt is coming off a sensational KO of the year performance when he stopped Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250. The momentum of the fight propelled him into an opportunity to win his second undisputed championship. The 125-pound division is relatively shallow, and the UFC looks at Garbrandt’s profile to possibly boost the division.
