Colby Covington takes on Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 245. Without any doubt, Usman is one of the best welterweights now and it is going to be the toughest test for the former interim champion, Covington. However, if Covington manages to get the job done on December 14th, we all know what lies in front of him. It’s going to be Jorge Masvidal.

The beef between Covington and Masvidal is getting intense with each passing day. Both the fighters have said a ton of things to each other on social media and interviews. Both fighters are in the primes of their careers. Hence it does make sense for these two welterweight elites to fight each other for the prestigious UFC title.

In a recent interview with BT Sports, when Covington was asked about his first title defense if he wins against Usman, Covington made it clear that he wants to fight Masvidal next.

Masvidal has become a global superstar following his performances in 2019. He knocked out Darren Till and Ben Askren in spectacular fashion, and he won the BMF title in a huge fight against Nate Diaz. However, Covington does not seem impressed with Masvidal’s wins as he believes his success is nothing but a fluke.

“I judge it as a fluke. Really just underwhelming. In the Darren Till fight, he got dropped in the first 30 seconds. He should have been just finished. But Darren Till got a little bit of overjealous. He was curting a lot of weight in that fight. He had a lot of pressure with the England fans. I think it got to him. He kind of froze out there. And that’s where Jorge was able to capitalize.”

“You know his last fight against Ben Askren. The guy is a nobody. He is 0-3 in the UFC. SO what’s impressive about that victory.”

“Another jobber, the Stockton Soyboy, Nate Diaz. Let’s be honest. That guy is 1-1 in the last 5 years. He barely ever fights. He is at the end of the roads. The guy has a double-digit loss. I don’t think anything impressive about his resume. He has not fought me or Marty Fakenewsman. Frankly, if he did he would not stand a chance.” stated Covington analyzing the wins of Masvidal in 2019.

Despite the bad blood between Covington and Masvidal, we can all agree that it is going to be a war if they ever face each other in the octagon. However, for that fight to ever take place, Covington needs to overcome the Nigerian Nightmare first on December 14th.
