A lot of fighters remain salty following a loss, even more so if a title was at stake. However, none more so than Colby Covington, who holds referee Marc Goddard responsible for his most recent loss.
‘Chaos’ engaged in a breathtaking back and forth with Kamaru Usman back in December 2019 at UFC 245. The Nigerian Nightmare successfully defended his UFC welterweight title against Covington by dropping him in the final round.
Losing to Usman cost Covington more than just the title, it shattered his win streak of 7 consecutive fights. Therefore, Covington has been gunning for a rematch against Usman ever since his loss. While speaking with ESPN, Covington revealed that his quest for vengeance could come to an end at Dana White’s Fight Island sometime this summer.

The 32-year-old American has been very vocal about his grievances with the British referee. From stepping in and accusing Covington of a ‘low blow’ in the second round to the untimely dismissal in the final round, Chaos has blamed Goddard for almost everything that went wrong in the fight.
In addition to losing him the title, Covington accuses Goddard of costing him a huge piece of his income from the fight.
“I would say [Goddard’s officiating cost me] between $10 million to $20 million, easy. I have such a bad taste in my mouth from that last fight. That’s my entire dream since I was 5. I set out to be the best in the world,” said Colby Covington.
Colby Covington demands a fair shot
It is not unusual for fighters to blame their loss on a biased referee or judges. However, Covington accuses Goddard of having a negative bias against him on the basis of their political opinions. Which seems a little naive and trivial.
“We found out that he is anti-Brexit and anti-Trump, so obviously he conspired against me. Knowing that he is a liberal and knowing that he is from the UK and obviously I have had spats with Michael Bisping and Darren Till. So of course, he wants me to lose,” said Covington while trying to support his accusations.

Covington’s support for President Donald Trump is something that is too hard to miss. From sporting clothes with his name on them to a cap that says “Make America Great Again”, Chaos’ political leanings are rather overt.

As far as his future in the octagon is concerned, Covington is only interested in taking on Kamaru Usman or Jorge Masvidal. And till that happens Convington is bound to the gym, working his way back to winning ways.
