Conor McGregor was still to become a star and was new to the SBG gym. However, he had a similar fire instinct within himself.

Well, that proved costly for him as Kavanagh took him to the ground and beat the “s***” out of him.

Speaking with Irish Mail, McGregor’s coach recalled the happening. It dates back to 2007 when McGregor dropped a women’s strawweight contender Aisling Daly in a sparring session.

“It sounds worse than it was. He wasn’t hitting her in the head or anything, but just happened to throw a body shot that hit her in the sweet spot, the solar plexus, and put her down,” said Kavanagh.

It instantly turned the Irish trainer emotional as he claims to have been close with Aisling Daly. That said, seeing her go down by a new contender was hard to digest.

John Kavanagh was seemingly a competitive fighter at that point and was not just a trainer. Thus he laced up his gloves and teach a lesson to McGregor.

Surprisingly, he beat the ‘Mystic Mac’ badly. At least that’s what Kavanagh claims.

“I held him down and beat the s**t out of him, without putting too fine a point on it.

“I kept hitting him in the body until he couldn’t breathe and then I looked at him: ‘What’s it going to be? We can train or we can fight?’ And he was OK from the next day,” told the coach.

The duo has achieved the world

Kavanagh has been McGregor’s full-time trainer since then, and the duo shares a healthy relationship. While McGregor claims himself to have retired from MMA, he is still to give up on his training.

If McGregor registers his return again, there is no doubt about Kavanagh being in his corner. He is the man who has groomed the ‘Notorious’ and has turned him into an elite martial artist.
