Week 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series is in the books and the UFC offshoot continues to produce spectacular results. The fourth season of the show saw four fighters being added onto the ever-expanding roster of the UFC. Not to mention, the combatants on the 5-fight card put on a strong showing and impressed the long-time boss of the promotion.

Chiefly, there were certain standout narratives surrounding the night of fights that stuck out to the MMA community. Cheyanne Buys impressed fight fans and the UFC brass with her emphatic display of crisp string at the Apex Facility. The UFC President was pumped to add the scrappy youngster to the roster and seemed optimistic about her future.

However, the card’s biggest underdog landed himself in hot water with White along with his UFC contract. Orion Cosce secured a third-round TKO win over Matt Dixon in a fight that initially left the boss unimpressed. Chiefly, Dana White was infuriated, to say the least, that Orion stopped 3 seconds before the bell of the second round to fist bump his opponent.

His casual nature in White’s mind was enough to initially dismiss him from earning a contract. However, his statement performance impressed the company President’s mind, affording him a spot on the roster.

Moreover, while announcing the winners, Dana White articulated his views on Orion Cosce’s overall showing on the night.

“I’m gonna tell you what I didn’t like about Cosce. In the second round, he looked at the clock and there was three seconds left on the clock. There was three seconds left on the clock and he literally stopped fighting.

“He touched gloves with Dixon, and Dixon did it too! They stopped before the end of the round. You are here trying to get into the UFC and you look at the clock in the second round and touched gloves and stopped. It literally blew my mind.

“He is very, very lucky that he came out and did what he did in the third round. I thought at the end of the second round that this guy is done, and he came out and proved me wrong.”

MMA Junkie’s Dan Tom took to Twitter and gave an insight into his views on the criticism that Orion Cosce received.
