UFC 303 on June 29 will mark the return of UFC’s prodigal son, Conor McGregor, after three years, against Michael Chandler in a welterweight bout in the main event of the T-Mobile Arena. And fighting under ‘Mac’ would be one of his compatriots: Ian Garry one of the UFC’s most promising prospects.

The undefeated Irishman is currently ranked #7 in the top-heavy welterweight division and will face another promising UFC prospect, Michael ‘Venom’ Page in the first fight on the already record-breaking card. And with almost weeks left for the mega-card, ‘The Future’ has a special request for Dana White and the UFC.

Ian Garry wants a five-round fight against ‘Venom’

‘The Future’ posted a video on his Instagram account, where he claimed that he would be asking Hunter Campbell, the UFC’s CBO, to make his upcoming UFC 303 clash against ‘MVP’ a five-round affair instead of a three-round one as it is currently scheduled to be.

“I think we should do five rounds. I’m gonna get on the phone to Hunter and the UFC today, and let’s push for a five-round co-main for this. Let’s push it. This is a fight where we’re representing the Irish. MVP get ready for 25 minutes of pain,” he said in the video.

And there are good reasons for the Irishman to want to extend the duration of their fight. Page, of course, is a flamboyant and dynamic striker, who is known and loved for his explosive, unorthodox, and flashy way of fighting. While Garry has a similar striking-first fighting style, Page’s style to stay moving in the octagon will make the former Bellator star a harder target to hit, unless, of course, the former bare-knuckle boxer gets tired.

Page’s flash and explosiveness, while impressive and spectacular to look at, also consume significant amounts of energy. And owing to this, the Englishman is more likely to have an advantage if the fight goes the distance. Another reason may very likely be the supreme confidence the #7 ranked welterweight has in his victory against Page.

‘The Future’ vows to use ‘MVP’ as an example

Ian Garry might not be the most favored fighter going into his bout against the dynamic MVP. Many like welterweight champion Leon Edwards have picked ‘MVP’ to win the bout. “If I had to put money on it, I’d probably favor MVP,” the 170-pound king told Sky Sports in a recent interview.

And the undefeated Irishman is vexed and infuriated at this. In a recent interview with ‘Lucky Block’, claimed that “I believe I’m levels above him [MVP] in every single way, shape, and form,” and felt that his UFC 303 clash against Page “is just an opportunity to show it, to prove it to people” promising that he would use the Englishman “as an example” to prove his dominance.

In addition, Garry revealed that he was initially “not remotely interested in this fight,” and was targeting a top-five ranked 170-pounder instead. However, since he wanted to fight soon, and no top-five contenders were available (Colby Covington having reportedly turned down a fight with Garry), he decided to settle upon Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

And if his request is accepted, making their fight a 25-minute affair, that is another advantage the Irishman will have on his UFC 303 opponent. What are your thoughts on Ian Garry’s claims?
