Daniel Cormier has, arguably, the most important fight of his career in front of him. The 41-year old aims to retire on top by defeating Stipe Miocic in his final fight. In order to become a world champion in his forties, Cormier has interacted with the perfect fighter – former two-time boxing heavyweight champ, George Foreman.

Both Cormier and Foreman are former Olympians. ‘Big George’ still holds the record for being the oldest boxing champ in heavyweight history. He defeated Michael Moorer in 1994 at the age of 45 to capture the belt. While DC is yet to match that number in terms of age, he can still learn a lot from the guidance of Foreman.
DC met the boxing legend back in November last year. While he didn’t have an exact date for his trilogy with Miocic back then, he had started his preparations already. However, as far as having George by his side is concerned, things didn’t plan out as expected for Cormier.
Daniel Cormier blames COVID-19 for not spending more time with George Foreman
Just two weeks ahead of his trilogy with the heavyweight champ, Cormier has talked extensively about his preparations. While speaking with MMA Junkie, Cormier detailed how a global pandemic prevented him from spending more time with George Foreman.
“Initially, we were out in Houston working with George. That was great. With the COVID and George is a bit older, so you don’t wanna be going back and forth. That didn’t work in that sense. Just the time that I spent with George Foreman is something that I’m always gonna treasure. I took some things from him in that short time,” Cormier said.

Cormier also brought in veteran MMA coach Mark Henry for the last dance of his career. While he already has the backing of a great coaching staff behind him at American Kickboxing Academy, an extra pair of eyes always help.

Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic have already fought twice in their career, with both fights happening in the past two years. The score is tied at one apiece, thus making the winner of this fight also the winner of the rivalry. With very little time remaining on the calendar, both of them are making a final push in their preparations for a fight that will possibly decide the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time.
