Dana White is unimpressed with Anthony Smith’s corner during UFC on ESPN+ 29. Smith walked into the cage as a favorite against the veteran, Glover Teixeira.
Prior to the fight, he was widely regarded as the ‘Legend Killer’ of the UFC. And during the first round, it seemed like he was going to get the job done on Teixeira as well.

Anthony Smith gets dominated
However, in the second round, Teixeira dropped Smith and almost came close to finishing him. ‘Lionheart’ somehow survived the round. But that did not do him any good. The Brazilian took over the fight from round three and dished out heavy punishment on Smith.

Smith got beaten up so badly that he suffered a broken orbital bone, broken teeth, and a cut under the eye. Despite all of that, his corner allowed him to continue fighting. The bout was mercifully stopped in the fifth and final round.
Shortly after the lopsided beat down, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto released a statement from Anthony Smith’s head coach.
Montoya said Anthony is a veteran and was “still in the fight” and we’ve seen many fighters who are losing come back to win. He congratulated Glover Teixeira and said he excepts full responsibility for the loss as Anthony’s coach.

Dana White reacts to Anthony Smith’s corner
The President of the UFC is not a fan of Smith’s corner. He, along with many other critics, believes that the cornermen should have thrown in the towel. White also said that the referee could have stopped the bout in the fourth round itself.
“I do (think we need more corner stoppages),” White told reporter, including MMA Junkie, post-fight at UFC on ESPN+ 29. “I didn’t think his corner was going to let him come out, but that’s between them and their corner. And the ref could’ve stopped that in the fourth, too.”
Daniel Cormier, who was on the broadcast team, was not happy about it either. White admitted that Cormier was “flipping out” and it was tough to watch the fight.
