Daniel Cormier spent seven years with the UFC and ended his career with the promotion at UFC 252. The former fighter has always praised the UFC and even revealed that there is a method to negotiate rather than taking grievances to a public forum. He praised the UFC yet again, which drew criticism from former UFC fighter Cris Cyborg

The Bellator MMA featherweight champion tweeted, “When (UFC) moved (UFC 232) from NV to CA 4 days notice they refused to compensated me for paid appearances I could no longer attend in Vegas. (UFC 240) they refused to buy my flights TO THE FIGHT because I did camp in (South Africa) I was the ppv Co main event (Daniel Cormier) you’re paid to shill”

Cyborg deleted the tweet, but her response to Cormier captured the attention of many fans. She lashed out at the fighter for his claims and accused him of being a shill. One can define a shill as one who “persuades people to buy something by being a satisfied customer.”

But why did Cyborg explode in this fashion?

Daniel Cormier owes a lot to the UFC

The UFC booked Cormier to fight Jon Jones in 2015. DC‘ reveals that despite his loss, the UFC recognized his efforts. He said, “After I had lost to (Jon Jones), Lorenzo Fertitta gave me a million dollars. Him and Dana gave me a million dollars. They actually called me and said, ‘We are going to give you a million dollars ‘DC’ for the job that you’ve done.’ “

The former UFC fighter saw his employer as someone who valued him despite not holding the belt. He said that the UFC helped him realize his dreams of buying a house and providing for his family. Even when he claimed UFC gold, the promotion compensated him handsomely.

‘DC’ said, “You know what happened after I fought ‘Rumble Johnson?’ I won the belt, I got paid $300k and the PPV sold $300k… They gave me $400k to make sure that I made a million dollars.

The company took care of him and he took care of them by always praising the company. ‘DC’ conspicuously stayed quiet during the fighter pay debate. This gave fans the impression that he was in a good place with his fight earnings.

Moreover, he praised former owner Lorenzo Fertitta and current UFC President Dana White

“So when people talk about ‘You’re a white knight for the UFC, why wouldn’t I be? They changed my life.’”

No other fighters have come out and talked about the UFC helping them out in such a scenario. Cyborg held the UFC championship and was a champion before signing with the promotion too. She was a big name but had many qualms with the company.

She had a four-year spell with the company. Before departing, Cyborg claimed that she wanted to be active. However, other issues played a role in her career, hastening her departure.
