Cory Sandhagen recently appeared in an interview with Aaron Bronsteter. The Bantamweight fighter discussed his upcoming fight and the opponent that he will face.
“The Sandman” is aiming to fight this May and does not want to push back the dates further, come what may. Corey is targeting UFC San Diego aka UFC Fight Night 175 for his next stint.
Talks for a battle with Dominick Cruz were already in works, and the fixture had almost been finalized. Yet, Dominick pulled out of the fixture for unknown reasons.

On being asked about the status of the fight with Cruz, Cory said,
“I’m not too big on saying things that are outside of the power of what I actually know to be true. What I know to be true is that he (Cruz) asked to fight in San Diego. And I’ve been asking to fight any of those three guys ahead of me. (Yan, Moraes, and Aljamain.) But, then I heard that Cruz is looking for a fight. I was like ‘oh, perfect!’. I thought that Aljamain’s had was a little hurt, and I wanted to fight in May at the latest. So, I think the UFC was on board with that fight. And then, I guess (Cruz) just changed his mind. You can interpret that however you want.
Aaron makes a fair point. A fight between Cruz and Cory will be entertaining, as both of them mostly match each other in capability and sill-set.
Unfortunately, it will not happen soon.
Cory Sandhagen to fight Aljamain Sterling?
While Cory seemed disappointed with the fact that Cruz pulled out of the fight, he isn’t entirely sad, and the reason is that he might still get the fight he wants.
Towards the end of the video, Cory suggested that there is a possibility of Aljamain Sterling showing up at San Diego for a fight.

Aljamain wants to get his championship match ASAP. For that, he needs to beat one of the top 5 of the bantamweight division. While he was hoping to fight Petr Yan, that idea seems far-fetched. Petr will face Marlon Moraes at UFC Kazakhstan.
The next best bet for him is none other than Cory Sandhagen. And both of them need to beat each other to move forward in the division.
Thus, a matchup between the two will be a win-win for both of them. The result will definitely scar the loser’s career, but that is a thing for the future.
