“Dont Bring Mrs. Helwani!”- When Conor McGregor Destroyed an MMA Reporter

Conor McGregor is a name that has become synonymous with the world of Mixed Martial Arts. The rise of the Irishman as an impeccable fighter gave him a pedestal which he did a great job of capitalizing on.

Today, he is well-known as one of the greatest sports personalities ever. And while his ability to fight is definitely noteworthy, his ability to sell has no match in the sport. He has broken countless PPV awards and continues to top the lists for most buys.

This amount of popularity comes due to his unmatchable theatricality. He lives up to his alias, ‘The Notorious One‘, quite diligently.

His antics and mind-games with fellow fighters often make the news and also work in his favor more often than not. It was on these lines that UFC President Dana White named him the ‘Muhammad Ali of MMA’. However, his statements often tend to go much beyond the lines of control in his pursuit of humiliating the one he addresses.

On one such occasion, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani had to face humiliation on his live show as McGregor left him with a glimpse of his notoriety.

Conor McGregor crosses the line with “Mrs. Helwani”

In his staple show, ‘The MMA Hour’, Helwani was interviewing McGregor. Therein, Conor told the ESPN reporter that he was throwing a party. He said, “I’m throwing a big party! Do you wanna come?”

Responding to that, Ariel said,

“Yes! Am I invited?”

To this, Conor gave one of his classically well-timed replies. He said,

“Of course, you’re invited! No fat chicks, yeah? Don’t bring Mrs. Helwani!”

It’s safe to say that his blows, when they do land with such precise timing, are devastating. Whether they be physical or verbal. However, it does seem that the landing rate of his verbal blows is off the charts!

Immediately after the comments, Helwani expressed his disagreement with that comment. He said,

“Whoa, Conor. Now you may have crossed a line, my friend.”

Crossing the line is something that Conor McGregor doesn’t really consider an offense. He has said many times that he uses the strategy to get to the minds of his opponents. Of course, he does manage to get his opponents riled up, as we saw in his fight with Jose Aldo.

The pedestal he stands on does warrant a little bit of civility. Yet, a pedestal that the man has earned himself also warrants that he may use it for humor if he so pleases.
