Dustin Poirier wants to take on Dan Hooker in a 25-minute bout, and Hooker has responded. Is this going to happen? And if yes, when?

Dustin Poirier last entered the Octagon for a title shot against Khabib Nurmagomedov. He faced the same fate as Conor McGregor and lost to Khabib via submission. With no opponent to fight, Poirier decided to call out Dan “The Hangman” Hooker.

 

 

Dustin Poirier changes his mind

Dan Hooker had previously called out Poirier. He did this soon after his victory over Al Laquinta. In his post-fight interview, Hooker said: “Meet me in New Zealand 2020, and I’m going to end you!”. However, Poirier seemed uninterested.

Poirier’s response wasn’t the one Hooker wanted. He said, “You’re close but not yet buddy keep punching.

Dan Hooker in his last fight came out victorious against Paul Felder in a close fight. He took that bout via split decision which is considered as controversial by many. Earlier, he managed to beat Al Laquinta, who wasn’t an easy opponent.

Does Poirier consider Hooker a worthy opponent?

Dan Hooker is coming off some good wins and needs a highly ranked opponent. So Poirier decided to call him out.

Even before his fight with Khabib, Poirier was eyeing a rematch against Conor. He lost to Conor at UFC 178 and wanted to square up the Irishman once again. But it seems like Poirier has finally moved on from Conor.

After his win over Felder, Dan Hooker called out Justin Gaethje. So the likeliness of that taking place before the Poirier fight is existent.

When will these two go at it next? Or will we be left waiting in suspense? Either way, this is a great matchup for the Lightweight division. Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker are high up on the rankings. A win will do both of them good and move them closer to their next title shot.
