After UFC 249, Tony Ferguson looks like one of the most unfortunate fighters in the business. He spent six months gearing himself to crack the puzzle of beating Khabib Nurmagomedov. Instead, he ended up fighting a lethal striker on a short-notice.

However, Tony’s jiu-jitsu coach, Eddie Bravo, believes there is a silver lining to the situation.

Justin Gaethje came in as a replacement for Khabib Nurmagomedov. But he ended up being more than just a short-notice replacement. Not only did he execute his game plan to perfection, he single-handedly ruined the most anticipated MMA fight of all time.

However, Tony Ferguson, being himself, has already started training again. Not the one to sit out on the shelf for too long, “El Cucuy” will be itching to get back into the Octagon to redeem himself.

Consequently, Eddie Bravo now believes that the loss could be a stepping stone for Tony Ferguson’s biggest pay-day of his career.

“We could look back at this as a blessing in disguise in one way,” the jiu-jitsu coach said during an appearance on Joe Rogan Experience.

Because originally Tony and Conor was the fight. But then Conor loses to Khabib. And now Tony and Khabib is the fight. Now since they are both coming off losses, right now Tony vs Conor makes the most sense.”

Eddie Bravo with an idea to set up the biggest card in UFC history

Conor McGregor vs Tony Ferguson has the potential to skyrocket the earning potential of any UFC card. However, if Eddie Bravo would be the matchmaker, he wouldn’t be satisfied with just this much.

The much-acclaimed coach would instead want to go for a Super Bowl kind of an event. On top of McGregor vs Ferguson, he would also have the fight for the 155-pounds belt between Khabib and Gaethje on the same card.

“How about Gaethje vs Khabib and Conor vs Tony same card,” Eddie Bravo speculated. “Super Bowl. How crazy would that be? New Year’s Eve or something. Everybody’s head will be blown simultaneously.”

Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub, both of whom were present on the podcast, were blown away with the idea. However, as appealing as it sounds on paper, there is little chance that the UFC will even think about doing such an event.

First of all, there’s still a looming question mark over when a live audience will be allowed back in the arena. Moreover, Dana White is a smart businessman. He would rather have the fights spread over two fight cards and make more money than having them both at once.

Regardless, the fight between “El Cucuy” and “The Notorious One” makes a lot of sense. Ferguson will have the opportunity to get back in title contention with just one win. For Conor, a victory over Ferguson can be his biggest ticket for a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Who do you think wins in a fight between Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson?
