Alexander Volkanovski is coming off a successful title defense over former champ Max Holloway. After the fight, featherweight contender Chan Sung Jung called out Volkanovski and promised to knock him out. The 145-pound kingpin has taken note of the callout but doesn’t believe it was Jung who wrote the post on Instagram.

The fight between Holloway and Volkanovski ended with a split-decision in the Aussie’s favor. It has been two days but fans and the media are still discussing if the judges’ decision was correct. The fact that the champ fought such a close fight wasn’t impressive for ‘The Korean Zombie’. He said that the judges won’t be needed if he fought Volkanovski, thus promising a knockout.

However, The Korean Zombie doesn’t speak English. Hence, it’s highly likely that the post was written by someone else and not him.

“Yeah, I’ve seen that,” Volkanovski replied when Ariel Helwani asked him if he’d noticed Jung’s comments. “Maybe he’s got one of his boys writing some stuff for him again. Straight after my last fight, his manager got lippy and started carrying on. One of them got slapped for it and they went quiet. Brian Ortega gave them a good slapping and they stopped talking for a while.”

“Maybe they need another good slapping to keep quiet,” Volkanovski said.

Jung last fought in December last year when he defeated Frankie Edgar. However, before he gets a shot at the title there is one big hurdle which he will have to cross.

Alexander Volkanovski wants Chan Sung Jung to fight Brian Ortega

The Korean Zombie and Brian Ortega have a strained history between them. Ortega slapped Jung’s friend and Korean rapper, Jay Park, at UFC 248. Park was also serving as Jung’s interpreter. Ortega wasn’t happy with Park’s translation of Jung’s comments which suggested that Ortega had ‘ducked’ the Korean.

The UFC had booked Ortega vs Jung for UFC Fight Night in Busan last year. However, Brian pulled off from the bout due to an ACL injury. Frankie Edgar, instead, served as the replacement.

After Ortega’s altercation with Jung’s friend and the K-pop star, The Korean Zombie was furious and said he wanted to fight Ortega. Given the state of the featherweight division, a fight between the two could decide the next challenger for the belt.

“I think he needs to fight Brian Ortega. I think that’s what they plan on doing. You go out there and you take out Brian Ortega and everyone is gonna be screaming your name and I’m gonna be there waiting one hundred percent,” Volkanovski added. Dana White has also given his approval for the fight promising it to be exciting as well.

The champ said that Max Holloway is the toughest challenge in the division. After defeating him twice, he is certain that he could take on anyone at 145 lbs.
