Tyson Nam claimed his first UFC win by knockout in June and wishes to continue his career in the same fashion. The Hawaiian fighter beat Zarrukh Adashev in just 32 seconds in a bantamweight clash.

However, he is a flyweight fighter and wants to secure a win at his preferred weight class. He has earned a shot against a top 10 flyweight fighter, Matt Schnell, and promised an encore on September 12 at UFC Fight Night: Waterson vs Hill.

First, the fighter touched on his dominant display from three months ago and claimed he would have liked to fight sooner. Now he sees a top 10 fight as a major step up in his career. He said, “Anybody with a number next to their name and someone in the top 10 is great.

Schnell has won eight of his 14 fights via submission, which shows that he looks forward to fighters coming at him and leaving themselves vulnerable to a takedown. Also, by closing the gap he eliminates the ability of opponents to step in with a fight-ending blow. This will not bother Tyson Nam, who detailed his strategy for Saturday’s fight.

He said, “Sprawl and brawl, baby. That is what we like to do in Hawaii as we like to throw punches and kicks. We are no stranger to grappling. It is MMA so I have to focus on that, too. I know Matt wants it to hit the mat and I want it to remain standing. I’ve fought black belts before, and I’ve never been submitted in a fight. There is no mystery I like to knock people out.”

Tyson Nam seeks a rapid rise in the flyweight rankings

The 36-year-old fighter has immense faith in his right hand. He believes that as soon as he strikes his opponents, they hit the canvas. A dominant finish could help him rise in the rankings, and Nam hopes he will feature in the top 10 on Monday.

The 36-year-old said, “If I knock him out, I’ll be top-10. So, if I keep putting performances like my last fight, I will be one or two fights away from a title shot.”

Talking about a title shot at present may give fans the impression that Nam is looking too far ahead. However, he feels that it is his end goal with the focus on the next fight, which will see him inch closer to a cherished title shot.

Nam said, “I always like to look at who has fights lined up and go from there. I’ll likely have a name come fight night, but I am just focused on Matt Schnell.”

This was the same ideology he followed when expressing interest in Schnell. ‘Danger’ fell victim to a KO in his last fight and will have made amends to avoid a repeat of the same. Hence, Nam’s work will be cut out.
