With a record of 28 wins and 0 losses, UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov is considered one of the greatest MMA fighter in the history of the sport. He has been dominating the entire division ever since he has stepped into the octagon. A record like that does make fans wonder whether ha can be beaten.
Former UFC champions such as George St Pierre, Tyron Woodley, and former ONE FC champion, Ben Askren have shown interests to test themselves against arguably the greatest fighter of this generation. With all these great matchups around for the Russian wrecking machine, there is one more possible opponent for Khabib Nurmagomedov in Bellator MMA, Michael Chandler.
Over the years fans have imagined how would former Bellator lightweight champion, Michael Chandler does in the elite competition that UFC presents. Fans have also wished for a match up between Michael Chandler and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Well, in a recent interview, Michael Chandler talks about whether he would sign with UFC and what will his game plan be against Nurmagomedov.
Answering about his future in MMA, Chandler said:
“There is not a day that goes by when there is not a conflict between my heart, my mind, and my soul. The fans want to see me fight Khabib, the fans want to see me fight the best guys in the world. But my heart says I know what I am fighting for and I know who I am fighting for. The competitor in me wants to fight the best guys in the world, but the businessman in me says when the day that I hang up my gloves, I want to make the right decision as a businessman. I am not trying to be the best fighter in the world, I am trying to be the best businessman in the sport.”
When asked about how would he fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, Michael Chandler said:
“I think I would come forward, I would put the pressure on him. I think he would shoot, he would try to go Khabib on me and I would try to stop his shot and I would try to get on top of him and kind of put him in the unfamiliar territory which is him being on the bottom.”
“I am gonna touch gloves, I am gonna bite down my mouthpiece, and I am gonna come forward for 25 minutes. I have been able to fight 25 minutes with Eddie Alvarez, one of the best guys to ever do it, Benson Henderson, one of the best guys to ever do it and some of the other guys. I have knocked guys in the first round and I have knocked guys in the 5th round. I have submitted guys in the first round and I have submitted guys in the 5th round.”
Although Chandler is a great matchup for Nurmagomedov, It’s very unlikely to see Michael Chandler fight Khabib Nurmagomedov fight in the octagon since Chandler is not leaning towards coming to UFC anytime soon.
