Former UFC title challenger Jon Fitch is ready to step inside the cage once again. But, there’s a catch.

Jon Fitch was on a 16 fight win streak before he challenged for the UFC’s welterweight strap. Although he lost his match against Georges St-Pierre,  Fitch amassed another impressive win streak. But, he wasn’t as successful as before. After his loss to Demian Maia, Fitch signed with WSOF (Presently PFL) where he won the company’s welterweight title.

As of now, Jon Fitch is signed with Bellator MMA. His last match was against Rory MacDonald which ended in a majority draw. Recently the 42-year-old has stated his intentions to fight again. But…

The former UFC title contender wants to fight again

“If they offer me more than what I’m currently contracted for, I would fight anybody. But otherwise, a title eliminator or the title – that’s what would do it,” Jon Fitch told MMA Junkie.

Previously, Fitch had compared MMA to pro wrestling. He said that it was all about entertainment and the uncertainty in the MMA world was frustrating. The American also demanded a proper merit-based system where fighters will get title shots based on their performance.

“It’s not a sport, and that’s really frustrating to deal with. That, paired with physical issues – I have kids now, so if the fights are not really appealing, it’s not worth doing. It’s not worth getting into training camp and breaking down my body for the amount of money that we’re making. There are other jobs you can do and get by and not get brain damage.”

Fitch has been in the sport for more than 17 years. The veteran believes that he deserves big fights and nothing else.

“I’ve been doing this for so long that if it’s not the main event fight and it’s not for a title or title eliminator, it doesn’t really make sense.”

Considering the current global scenario, it is unclear as to when things will return back to normal. And with age not on his side, Fitch might retire soon.
