George St-Pierre is one of the best to ever step foot inside the Octagon. The fact that makes him great isn’t that he only has two losses in his resume. It’s how he prepared for his rematches that elevates him above the pack.

The only two losses of GSP’s career came against Matt Hughes and Matt Serra. He managed to successfully avenge them by adopting a methodical training regime focused upon each opponent. The former champ revealed what he found the best methods to prepare for a fight.

“When you’re fighting someone, the perfect way to prepare for someone is to become his perfect antagonist,” George St-Pierre said during a recent Instagram live session with Tyron Woodley. “In a situation like this, the same thing here, you’re taken out of your comfort zone and you each have to find a way to make your training and your preparation and to perform, which is very hard but you have to think about your opponent will go through the same thing.”

George St-Pierre shares his tip for fighters training during the lockdown

Even after retiring, St-Pierre couldn’t be kept away from training, not even by the Coronavirus. The Canadian has been regularly posting videos of his workout on Instagram.

Even though GSP trains regularly, he doesn’t have to be in fighting shape, unlike other active fighters. Coronavirus has shut down all the gyms. However, with Dana White’s enthusiasm to put up fights, the fighters on UFC payroll find it better to be in shape for a fight. Something very hard for them to keep doing.

“As a martial artist, you always find a way to be creative. Even if you cannot go to the gym, you can find a way to train and do your work. There are many ways to do it.”

The UFC has postponed all its events indefinitely. Consequently, fighters who are scheduled to fight in the coming months have been stuck in limbo. They aren’t sure if they should keep training or take the time off to peak at the right time.

Whatever the ordeals are, GSP believes that they are equally shared by everyone.

“It would be hard, however, you have to take it that way,” St-Pierre added. “It would be equally as hard for your opponent. So you’re both at a disadvantage in a way, you know what I mean? You’re going to have to be creative.”

There is no fixed date as of when the UFC plans to resume action. Per Dana White, “fight island” will be up and running by mid-May. However, a recent relaxation made by the Governer’s office in Florida has made sports without an audience as an “essential service”. Therefore, if the plans for fight island fall through, UFC now has a new alternative to explore
