Georges St-Pierre went down as one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. He has a stellar 26-2 record and also had the most wins in title fights. The Canadian fighter was the fourth man in UFC history to win titles in two separate weight divisions. He achieved the feat in his final fight with the company, where he moved to Middleweight and beat Michael Bisping.

Ardent fans have observed a bizarre pre-fight ritual in the fighter’s 15-year long career. Here, ‘GSP’ would lick his fingers and rub his nipples. ESPN MMA’s Ariel Helwani asked the Canadian to clear the air about this pre-fight ritual, and GSP happily obliged.

Georges St-Pierre explains the unique pre-fight ritual

“It make you disconnect for a split second because you’re so stressed. And it just make you disconnect for a split second. It’s crazy, it makes you remember to do something that has nothing to do with the fight. It reduces the tension a little bit. It makes you reset a little bit.”

Some fighters have rituals which help them, and others just show up to fight. Nipple pinching was a common feature among all fighters from Jackson’s MMA group. It may have helped them zone out for a bit before refocusing on the task at hand. ‘GSP’ certainly benefited from it, as his records show.

In the same chat, GSP made a shocking revelation. He said he never liked to fight. However, he only did it because of the fame and money and other advantages.

The fighter continues to work out religiously and is in good shape even a year after announcing his retirement. However, based on his comment about not liking to fight, it’s hard to see him making another return to the Octagon.

“I just like to do it because I’m very good at it. But I don’t like the actual fight, it’s very stressful.” Was this another reason he engaged in this pre-fight ritual?
