Former UFC interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington claims that Conor McGregor has no chance of winning against him.

Covington is arguably the best trash talker on the microphone. The American mixed martial artist is known to get under his opponents’ skin and rub them the wrong way. Recently, he went after the ‘Notorious,’ Conor McGregor.

When asked about the gameplan—in a fantasy matchup—against McGregor, Covington claimed that he can finish Conor in one round.

“He doesn’t make it out of the first round with my relentless pressure,” Colby told Shantanu Mayenkar of EssentiallySports.

With a gas tank that can last for days, Colby can put a pace on his opponent. His volume striking with constant takedown threats wears out his opposition. A fight between Colby and Conor would be rather interesting. Both men have polar opposite styles.

On one side, you have Colby with his volume striking, elite-level wrestling, and insane cardio. And, on the other hand, you have McGregor with his versatile striking, a dangerous left hand—don’t forget the left shoulder—and an underrated wrestling defense.

The history between Colby Covington and Conor McGregor

This is not the first time Covington has thrown a jab at the Irishman. Previously, he belittled McGregor’s performance against Nate Diaz (First fight).

After McGregor’s return to welterweight against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, Covington referred to McGregor as a “little guy who fights midgets.” He claimed that McGregor is not fighting real welterweights.

“Con Man McGregor, he is a little guy. He should be fighting in little featherweight with the little midgets. Cause that’s the only people he could beat. He ain’t beating no real welterweights. He is not gonna fight me, to be honest,” Covington told theScore MMA.

As of now, Covington is on the sidelines. He has not competed since his loss to Kamaru Usman. Colby believes that he deserves an immediate rematch against Usman. Yet, he is willing to “end” Tyron Woodley or his former friend Jorge Masvidal.
