Colby Covington believes that the UFC 251 headliner between Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman was a snoozefest. The former interim champ separately blasted both the champ and the challenger for their respective performances.

‘Chaos’, while talking to MMA Junkie, lashed out at the two men who’d just headlined one of the highest-selling UFC event in recent history. Covington last stepped foot inside the Octagon against Kamaru Usman when he challenged the Nigerian champ for his belt. While Covington still believes he won three rounds of that fight, he criticized Masvidal for losing all five rounds.

“I wanted to watch it but then I fell asleep,” Covington said about the fight. “It was so boring. It was a hug-fest and they were playing footsie the whole time. That wasn’t a real fight. Marty Fakenewsman’s stock went way down in the fight. He is definitely the most boring fighter in the history of the UFC.”

After his failed bid to capture the title, Covington has never failed to talk about how he was on the verge of winning the contest. He has often blamed the referee of the fight, Marc Goddard, for stopping the fight prematurely.

Regardless of his rants, Covington vs Usman was one of the best title fights in recent memory. Even Usman has accepted that the fight was one of the toughest challenges of his career.

Colby Covington says Kamaru Usman exposed Jorge Masvidal

Kamaru Usman was originally slated to fight Gilbert Burns. However, after Burns tested positive for COVID-19, Jorge Masvidal stepped on a six-days notice to fight the champ. Even Colby Covington had offered to step in on the short notice. However, the UFC went with ‘Gamebred’.

Covington had put his money on Usman. Following the outcome of the fight, Covington’s faith in Masvidal’s incompetence as a fighter was confirmed.

“We found out what I said the whole time. Street Judas Masvidal is all hype. He had his fifteen seconds of fame. He hit lighting in a bottle. But we just found out what everybody knew. He’s not a well-rounded fighter. He got exposed. It’s pathetic that he is out there asking for a rematch. He lost every round and got destroyed. I won three rounds of Marty Fakenewsman,” Covington said.

‘Chaos’ and ‘Gamebred’ were former teammates at American Top Team. However, there was evident friction between the two after Masvidal shot to prominence in 2019. The two have gone back-and-forth at each other. Covington has even said that he would fight Masvidal on the streets.

“Guess what b**h, I am not in American Top Team anymore. We can do this anytime. You wanna meet in public. All those stupid f***ing things you said in the gym because you were protected by coaches. Let’s go m***cker. Let’s get locked in a cage in front of the whole world,” Covington added.

Usman and Masvidal aren’t the only ones that Covington has a problem with. He has even spoken against the UFC for not booking a fight for him recently. Covington had offered to step in to fight multiple times. However, the UFC didn’t get back to him on either occasion.
