Top 10 for Ciryl Gane

UFC president Dana White is a fan of the French-born fighter. Speaking to the media in the pre-fight presser for UFC 256, White addressed the upside to fighting Dos Santos. He said, “There’s nothing but upside. I mean he’s ranked number 14 and I think JDS is number seven, nothing but upside. It breaks him into the top ten. He’s one of the biggest, scariest, hardest-hitting dudes in the division and he moves like a middleweight. There’s nothing but upside for that guy.”

Gane has been a bit unlucky with his fights falling out. Most recently, he would have faced Ante Delija, but because of contractual disputes with the PFL, Delija could not compete. The UFC President continued, “Plus he’s had a rough year. We’ve all had a rough 2020, but he’s had a really rough 2020. I mean, fights have been falling out left and right for this guy.”

But White is finally happy to have the Frenchman fighting on this card against a game opponent with a big name. He continued, “He’s here, he’s going in against a guy who can break him into the top 10 with a win nothing but upside.”

The UFC president was also asked if there was any update on the title fight between Francis Ngannou and champion Stipe Miocic. As of right now, neither has the UFC has not announced a date for the fight, nor have any contract negotiations started. When the reporter asked Dana if there is a date in mind for that fight, he received a resounding, “No.”

While Ngannou is the #1 contender for the title, Gane will naturally want to occupy that slot some time in his career. A win over Dos Santos will be a step in the right direction for the heavyweight who “moves like a middleweight.”
