The UFC star  Tony Ferguson has expertly, and in many ways, dominantly navigated the caged combat that at times it feels like it’s been too easy for him.

Come April 18, at UFC 249, one would expect Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson to repeat that flash and depth in the octagon which we have been accustomed to.

The 36-year-old former interim Lightweight champion has forged his path, tearing down any walls in his usual wicked stride length with a jab and cross from the distance where it’s hard to counter him.

And so finally in UFC’s fifth attempt to materialize Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson, the latter reveals that “Khabib owes him money.”

Ferguson further adds that he will beat Khabib as it has gotten personal.

When reporter Rodney James from Capeside press asks whether he is putting in more and taking this fight with Khabib personally, Ferguson replies saying:

“No, it’s another fight and I’m taking that and everybody else is hyping it up, I’m pretty cool.”

Ferguson refuses to admit it but with the way things are going on, it’s hard not to put a personal label on it.

Dana White, the president of the UFC, acknowledged the fear of the outbreak but seems positive about UFC 249 happening as per plan.

“When it comes to the safety of the athletes and the fans and everything else, no matter where we go or what we do, we’re always concerned,” White said.

“We’ve been thinking about this for weeks. Dr Jeffery Davidson has been involved. I don’t know what else to say other than that.”

Given that all major sporting events around the world, including NBA and Premier League, are either getting postponed or moved behind closed doors, it was safe to assume that Khabib vs Ferguson could be at the risk of getting cancelled.

“We’re not cancelling the event,” White said about the event but also suggested that the outbreak could change the situation.”
