In a recent interview, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya said that he is pleased with Robert Whittaker.

Israel Adesanya took on Robert Whittaker last year. The match did not last for long, as Adesanya made quick work of Whittaker in the second round. Unfortunately for Whittaker, he did not get an immediate rematch. The Aussie was slated to compete against Jared ‘The Killa Gorilla’ Cannonier at UFC 248.

But the ‘Reaper’ pulled out of his scheduled bout due to personal reasons. After months of speculation and rumors, Whittaker finally revealed the reason behind his withdrawal. The former middleweight champion said that he had a realization during a regular training session. He stated that continuous practice burnt him out, and he missed crucial time with his family. As a result, he changed his schedule and his team.

Israel Adesanya Comments on Robert Whittaker

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Adesanya said that he is happy that Whittaker realized that fighting is not everything.

“I read an article about him on the sand dunes and he had this epiphany where he was just like, ‘Huh what am I?’ and I kinda liked that for him. I’m happy for him that he realized that before it was too late because there’s more important things in this world than fighting.”

Further, Adesanya states that Whittaker has a family and friends; a life beyond boxing. “Definitely, fighting is really important, but I’m happy that he made that realization that this (expletive) ain’t everything.”

The fighter also commented that life is all about finding the balance between your personal and professional life. It does not bode well to have everything set up in one’s professional life and have nothing personally. Finding a balance is important.

“You have to balance it, so I’m glad he’s starting to find that balance now.”

If rumors are true, Whittaker will face Darren Till next. The ‘Reaper’ even proposed a match at catchweight (195 lbs).

On the other hand, Adesanya is coming off a lackluster performance against Yoel Romero. He will probably face “The Eraser,” Paulo Costa in his next title defense.
