Tony Ferguson fell to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 and lost a hard-earned opportunity at Khabib Nurmagomedov. Additionally, his nearly 8 year long 12-fight undefeated streak came to an end. As a result, he has earned a lot of sympathy from all quarters around the world. Conor McGregor was not to be left out, as he too posted a message with some sympathy for ‘El Cucuy.’

Conor McGregor has his say on Tony Ferguson

The 3rd ranked Lightweight fighter tweeted, “I love Tony. We represented him amazingly at Paradigm sports and were betrayed for a promise of a baseball contract. But frame and preparation here was just embarrassing. His methods and conversation are humorous/enjoyable but he was never the level perceived. Although tough.”

‘Notorious’ is clearly calling out ‘El Cucuy’s double weight cut which played a factor in the main event. He wasn’t gasping between rounds, but he looked exhausted. Fans argue that the style is quintessentially Tony, but his punches were not causing as much damage as those of ‘The Highlight.’

‘El Cucuy’ suffered a broken orbital bone, but it disappointed him that the referee stopped the fight while he was on his feet.

‘Notorious’ also used the opportunity to move ‘El Cucuy’ behind him in the queue to the title. He tweeted, “it is Dustin/Tony next when Tony heals. If he does.”

The Irishman went on to say that Dustin Poirier could get the win if changes aren’t made. He mocked the 2nd ranked Lightweight fighter, as the current ranking system does not sit well with him.

“Dustin although game, and in the mix, will be fed to the floor again. Couple wins here/there then folded in half. Rinse and repeat- Dustin career.”

What ‘Notorious’ suggested is actually a fight between the top-ranked Lightweight fighters. However, he is promised the next shot at the winner of the Lightweight Championship. In addition, the 3rd ranked Lightweight is also doing his bit to stay in the reckoning by taking shots at both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.
