Dana White and Ronda Rousey met on a video call, and it was so nostalgic to see them both discussing fights. Ronda began talking about her Canis Panther pet and how she wants to search a girlfriend for him. But Dana was in work mode, and he came down to business without wasting much time.

Holly Holm vs Irene Aldana was supposed to be the main event on August 2. However, that fight is postponed to later this year. The new main event is Derek Brunson vs Edmen Shahbazyan. This gets even more special because Edmen is managed by Ronda.

Ronda Rousey puts Edmen Shahbazyan above everyone

Edmen has a clean history. He has an MMA record of 11-0-0, having won 10 of those fights in round 1 KO. Further, he won five fights under 1 minute in a dominant fashion. This 22-year-old American MMA fighter is born to fight in the UFC.

Clearly, the youngster impresses ‘Rowdy Ronda’ to no end. She heaped praises on him during this brief exchange of words. She said, “That’s my fighter. He has always been special. He is that first generation of kids that only did MMA.”

Further, she states, “He was obsessed with MMA when I was training at the gym. He was actually my throwing dummy.”

It is noteworthy that the whole idea behind the UFC was to bring the best fighters from unique combat disciplines onto one stage. The world wants to see which fighting style or a mix of styles can dominate the map. But the coming generation is taking direct training in MMA, and hence they’re proving to be more lethal.

The ‘Arm Collector’ and her student

Ronda was the flag bearer of women’s entry into the UFC back in 2013. She is a legacy, and her association with a fighter can never be taken lightly. If she is praising someone, the guy deserves every bit of the acknowledgment. She goes ahead and says:

“It’s not like he is mediocre at everything. He is just f**king awesome at everything. Like this kid started off like destroying everyone at grappling tournaments, destroying everyone at boxing tournaments, then we started MMA, it was just a no-brainer.” She also reveals, “He was my training partner [at 15], he learned armbars from me.”

She calls him sweet and quiet but also claims that he can break the record of Jon Jones. The undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones, defeated Shogun Rua in March 2011 to become the youngest UFC champion. He was just 23 years and eight months old back then, while Edmen is 22 years old right now.

Technically, Edmen must become a champion before June 2021 to beat that record. The pandemic might pose some problems against this dream, but it’s achievable.

Let us see how soon he can break into the Top 5 and become a contender for the title fights. To begin with, he must defeat Derek Brunson first.
