Speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Masvidal cleared the air about his status as the number one contender. Following reports that welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was looking for a fight against Conor McGregor, Gamebred came out firing against Usman.

“To tell you the truth I don’t care, he’s desperate and is calling out to everybody,” He said. Recent reports quoted Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, saying that the champion is looking toward to a mega-fight with McGregor.

This would leave Masvidal to rematch Nate Diaz, a fight that he has expressed an interest in. The fight would certainly be attractive to casual and hardcore MMA fans alike. Early Vegas projections show promising numbers for a potential BMF sequel.

Jorge Masvidal remains firm in his belief that Usman will price himself out of a McGregor matchup, leaving him to dictate terms.

Conor McGregor has remained surprisingly quiet during recent statements made by potential opponents. He has stipulated that his training has been ongoing, so a spontaneous return would not be too surprising.

What’s Next for Jorge Masvidal?

Masvidal, who has close to 50 fights, shot to stardom after back-to-back highlight-reel knockouts. He suffered some razor-thin split decision losses and was once a fringe fighter. Gamebred now stands to pick and choose only the most lucrative fights.

In a week surrounded by multiple contradicting reports, and ex-teammate Colby Covington’s departure from ATT Gym, Masvidal says he’s put all the intangibles behind him. Positing July 9 date as a return, your guess would be as good as mine as to Masvidal’s next opponent.
