Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably the best grappler the sport has ever seen. His record speaks for itself. ‘The Eagle’ is undefeated with a perfect record of 28-0. What is more impressive is that Nurmagomedov has dominated every single one of his opponents from start to finish.

There have been no close calls (officially). The Dagestani fighter has unquestionably won all of his fights. This is something that was never seen previously in the UFC. There have been dominant champions but never someone like ‘The Eagle.’ The 32-year-old now aims to extend his streak to 29-0 against Justin Gaethje.

What makes Khabib Nurmagomedov different from others?

In a recent interview, Mike Swick asked Khabib the biggest difference between him and his opponents. Nurmagomedov replied saying, “I think it’s the mental game. If I watch, I’m not the best wrestler, I am not the best grappler, I’m not the best striker. But when everything become like together you know, this makes me successful.”

Khabib continued, “I think everything together, plus mental. I think conditioning as well. I make tired all of them. When I fight with all my opponents, first-round I feel okay they have power. Second round, I feel I have three times more power than them…. Second, third round, I feel much better than them. I think condition too.”

Nurmagomedov has a mind-boggling takedown average of 5.35 (takedowns landed per 15 minutes). While on the ground, Khabib Nurmagomedov not only does a good job of inflicting damage but also makes sure that the opponent is swamped. He makes the opponent carry his weight the entire time, which takes its toll on conditioning.

However, in his upcoming fight, things will be difficult, as he faces Justin Gaethje, who has a takedown defense of 80%. It is one of the highest in the division.

What do you think separates Khabib Nurmagomedov from his competition? Do you agree with his assessment?
