Khabib Nurmagomedov has overcome all the challenges thrown by his competitors inside the Octagon. He is trying to do the same in dealing with the death of his father. Apart from performing at the highest level of MMA, Khabib is also doing all he can to take his father’s legacy forward.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a coach renowned for training several world champions, died earlier this month. At age 57, he left the world due to the complications stemming from Coronavirus. The entire MMA community mourned the loss of an influential coach. He had invested a significant portion of his life in the development of the sport.

Khabib’s father was also involved in building an infrastructure that would make it easier for regional fighters to train. Last year Khabib and his father showed the media around a newly constructed gym that had Abdulmanap’s name on it.

To make sure that there are more such facilities, Khabib met with local leaders. The discussion between the two parties revolved around the completion of numerous other projects in the region.

“I would like to thank you for your respectful and trusting attitude towards my father. He had a lot of plans, I consider it my duty to see them through to the end,” said Khabib.

Vladimir Vasilyev, the head of Dagestan, presented his full support for the projects. He added that Abdulamanap made world champions with little resources. This is something that everyone should look up to.

“We have an instruction from the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin) and a debt to the memory of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, whom we all respected and appreciated immensely, he was my adviser, helped and supported me a lot,” he said.

While Khabib is doing his bit for the uncompleted projects, he very well knows that he is one of the biggest legacies of his father. It is due to his performances on a global stage that his father became a mainstream name in mixed martial arts. Hence, he will aim to continue his run as the undefeated lightweight champion of the world.

Khabib has hardly ever faced a lot of adversity inside the Octagon. However, these two challenges will be the biggest ones in his career. If he gets past both Gaethje and GSP, he will most likely hang up his gloves. Going out as an undefeated mixed martial artist will be one of the best tributes that Khabib can give to his late father.
