Retirement is a huge milestone for people working in any field. Usually, people hope to part with their place of employment on good terms. However, that is not always possible. Georges St-Pierre faced a similar dilemma when he was looking to hang his gloves up for good.

Following his victory over Johnny Hendricks in 2013 at UFC 167, GSP took a sabbatical from the sport. His decision to leave of absence stirred up a lot of problems. Dana White, for one, bashed GSP for his decision to leave because the controversial judge’s decision warranted a rematch.

GSP, back in 2013 was a huge advocate for enhanced drug tests for fighters. However, the unavailability of the same is one of the reasons as to why he left.

In a recent interview with Burt Watson on Instagram Live, ‘Rush’ doubled down on his decision to bow out of the fight game.

“No, I’m done. I’m retired. I retired years ago. Maybe I could fight again if I wanted to. If I would have wanted to fight, I would come back for one fight, on my terms. I don’t want to go back and be stuck in a contract that stipulates if I win I need to stay there and fight again. And I don’t want to do that,” said Georges St-Pierre as he explains why he wants to avoid a contract(via Fighthype.com).

The welterweight emphasizes the fact that the only way he comes back is on his own terms. He feels that the promotion should avoid forcing fights on the fighter just because he signed a contract.

“I don’t want to become a champion. I don’t want to be a seasoned fighter that fights 3 times a year. This life is gone for me, it’s finished.” said GSP.

However, it is important to consider that its not just the fans that want the Canadian fighter to make a return to the octagon. The number of times his name comes up when fighters talk about their potential opponents is unbelievable. So it is only a matter of time till someone offers Rush a ridiculous amount of money to make a comeback.

“It’s not about the money, it’ about the condition. [If] I go back and fight I don’t want to be locked up. Like ‘oh I have to fight again.’ If I win or lose I can decide if I want to do it again or not,” maintains GSP as he brushes off any doubts about him making a contractual comeback for the right price.
