“I Got Teased Mercilessly”- Roxanne Modafferi Reminisces About Her Past

Roxanne Modafferi recently took to twitter to spread a message of hope to her fans. The post was a picture of her younger self wearing a baseball glove.

In these trying times with people struggling all over the world, Modafferi posted a picture of herself aged 11 with a caption that read

“My mom sent me this old picture of myself when I was 12 years old. I got teased mercilessly for being nerdy and weird. I wish I could go back and tell myself, “Don’t worry, little Roxanne. You’ll have friends and even fans when you grow up.”- Roxanne Modafferi

“The Happy Warrior” describes Modafferi perfectly. She has built a rather successful MMA career by looking at life with a positive outlook and her warrior mentality.

No stranger to bullying and being treated as an underdog, Modafferi rises above all that with a smile on her face.

“I tend to be the underdog a lot. My striking is kind of awkward so I think people look at my striking style and kind of put me down but once I get to the ground it’s a whole different story.”- Roxanne Modafferi

Roxanne Modafferi In The Octagon

The Happy Warrior last stepped into the octagon on the 19th of January. She took on Maycee Barber. And it is safe to say that she completely dominated the fight and took home a well-deserved win. Modafferi dealt Barber the first loss of her career.

“She cried out, but she kept going like a true warrior, and I respect that very much. And my coaches told me to capitalize on it. In here, you have to be a little merciless until the ref pulls you off. I wanted to prove that I’m not just a veteran gatekeeper.
