“I Have Way More Tools than Conor McGregor”- Sean O’Malley Brushes Away Questions About His Fighting Style

Sean O’Malley recently had a heart to heart with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. The pair talk about all things UFC and discuss how his journey has been so far. O’Malley commands a rather unique style inside the octagon and the pair talk about the similarities he may share with other fighters.

Despite having only three fights under his belt at the UFC Sugar has always been a crowd favorite. He seems to have a knack for drawing the attention of fans and has managed to become a rather popular name.

O’Malley boasts of a stunning record of 11-0-0 in MMA. The 25-year-old American fighter seems to on the path for an extremely bright future.

While in conversation with Ariel Helwani, the fighter was asked about which fighter his fighting style resembles the most.

The bantamweight star went on to compare himself to the Irishman, Conor McGregor. He feels he is quite similar to the lightweight icon, however, he has a few extra aces up his sleeves.

“There is no one. I get compared by some people, that I have a similar striking style to Conor [McGregor] and I do in a sense, but I have way more tools than Conor.”- Sean O’Malley

The fighter admits that McGregor is one of the greatest fighters in the world. He clarifies that his statement is not a knock on Conor’s abilities. However, he still feels that he has more weapons in his arsenal compared to McGregor.

“Conor’s a really high-level striker, you can’t do that without being as good as he is. But I feel that when you compare my striking, I have way more tools than him.”- Sean O’Malley

Between his fighting style, poise and tenacity to put on one hell of a show, O’Malley is truly extraordinary. Undefeated fighters often carry an aura of cockiness around with them, which is not always a bad thing. O’Malley is aware of the effect that social media can have on one’s ego by blowing it out of proportion. However, O’Malley is determined to keep a healthy amount of humility in life.

Helwani adds that the American fighter slightly resembles the fighting style of Israel Adesanya. O’Malley is always on the lookout for tips, tricks, and special moves. In addition, he admits that he refers to the highlight reels of fighters like Adesanya.

Making a spectacular comeback to the octagon after two years following his fight with Andre Soukhamthath. Sugar took on Jose Quinonez and won by TKO. The fight only lasted 2:02 minutes and was over in the first round itself.
