“Donald showed up, Cowboy wasn’t there. The wrong guy showed up, couldn’t get excited, couldn’t get fired up. Biggest fight, all the attention, my time to shine, I didn’t want to be there. (Expletive) it was crazy man. I don’t know why. I don’t know how to change that. But it sucks man,” admits Donald Cerrone.

This resulted in The Notorious One steamrolling through Cowboy, bagging a knockout within the first minute of the fight.
The win marked the southpaw’s emphatic return to winning ways following his loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov back in October 2018. On the other hand, McGregor’s win sent Cerrone face-first into his third consecutive loss since June 2019.
“Sometimes I show up there and I’m f***ing ready, I’m fired up and I’m ready to go. Sometimes I get there and I’m like ‘I don’t even want to be here.’ So, no idea, wish I had the answer. Two days before the fight I was f***ing like, it was just hard. When I showed up there that morning, it was like ‘Man, f**k’ I just wasn’t feeling it,” claims Cerrone referring to his mentality going into the fateful fight.
Donald Cerrone Looking For a Way Out of This Rut
Cerrone faced a lot of backlash for his performance against McGregor. Most notable from ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith. Smith went on to rip Cerrone’s loss apart, instead of praising Conor’s win. He nuked Cerrone for showing up for such a high profile bout unprepared.
Cerrone claims he would have pulled himself out of the state of mind he was in if he knew how “If I had the answer man, I would have pulled out of it. I didn’t have the answer. I went in there with my thumb in my a** and made it 40 seconds. It was a f****d deal. It sucked.”

“When he came at me with that big shot and I shot in, I hit his hip bone. Then I grabbed a hold of him just to get my bearings back. And he like did the jumping shoulder slam which compounded the fog in my brain.
And then I let go and he head-kicked me. There was no time to regroup. So from the first second of the fight to when he ended it, I couldn’t even get my bearings back” says Cerrone as he breaks the entire ordeal down.

However, there is a silver lining for the Albuquerque man, a chance at redemption and vindication himself. Cerrone is looking to take on Anthony Pettis on the preliminary card on May 9th. This matchup comes years after their initial encounter in January 2013, in which Pettis came out on top with a knockout.
Do you think Cowboy can find his way back to winning ways?
