Ben Askren has been away from the octagon ever since his back-to-back losses against Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia. However, he was thoroughly active in coaching young talents at the Wisconsin Regional Training Center.

Askren’s discontent with the WRTC’s work ethic recently came to light. The UFC man took to Twitter and revealed his resignation from his post of the Head Coach, leaving a huge faction of fans dejected.

Although WRTC hasn’t cited anything from their end, Askren accused the organization of having a lack of transparencies.

Ben Askren vows to resign from Wisconsin Regional Training Center

‘The Funky’ Askren recently cited the lack of integrity and transparency in their leadership as the catalyst behind his hasty resignation.

Askren didn’t take any particular names, however, it was a clear accusation to the entire organization.

If you don’t know what WRTC is, it is a US-based wrestling academy. In the Wisconsin Regional Training Center, high-school wrestlers, college, and post-collegiate wrestlers are taken after meeting with the demanded criteria.

Then they are trained respectively to reach their potential of being a state-level champion, national-level champion, or world champion.

Having been a World Champion himself, it is safe to say that the WRTC was in safe hands. An elite grappler who has remained undefeated for most of his career, the longtime Head Coach competed in multiple promotions across the world.

Therefore, his departure can very well affect the organization as a whole. However, it Askren’s resignation needs to be ascertained for many feel that it is just some Twitter banter.

‘The Funky’ ride in UFC

After dominating the ONE Championship roster, President Dana White brought Askren into the UFC.  He notched a controversial yet impressive victory against Robbie Lawler, right off the bat, at UFC 235.

However, his second appearance against Jorge Masvidal was duly deemed the most humiliating loss of his pro MMA career. Masvidal knocked him out within 5 seconds, leaving Askren out cold on the mat.

While he tried to bounce back to the win column at Fight Night on October 26, 2019, Demian Maia handed him another submission victory.

Since then Askren has been inactive in UFC, teasing matchups frequently on social media.
