Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Henry Cejudo is not all that impressed with rising star Sean O’Malley.

Contrary to popular belief, ‘Triple C’ believes that O’Malley will not be able to stand “actual competition.” He said that the 25-year-old is very selective about the people he faces. When talking to ESPN, Cejudo said,

“I think Sean O’Malley is completely overrated. I think he has a funnel body. They haven’t put him up against a wrestler. Every time they ask Sean O’Malley, ‘Who do you want next?’, [he says], ‘I want [another] striker’.”

Well, it is true that O’Malley prefers fighting strikers. However, he stated that the reason behind the same is that he wants to rise to Champion status, and wants to pick the smarter fights. Fights against wrestlers calling him out will only produce, he said, uninteresting fights. And that is not ideal for his career, according to him.

“You know what that tells me as a competitor? I’m thinking outside the box that this dude does not want any smoke up against the cage. This dude doesn’t train with people that can grind him. And that’s it.”

Even though ‘Suga’ himself accepts that he picks strikers, the reason he has does not match Cejudo’s. O’Malley has been rather consistent about Jiu-Jitsu being his “secret weapon.” In fact, he even said that he would love to take down wrestlers. But that is only when he reaches a certain championship status.

While Henry is enjoying retirement, he did not shy away from imagining a fight with O’Malley. The multi-divisional champion said,

“If I were to ever fight him? I would hurt him, I would grind him out. I would keep him for like, maybe 3-4 rounds, and just hurt him.”

While Cejudo believes that O’Malley will suffer if he steps inside the Octagon with him, he did accredit O’Malley for his impeccable striking.

“I’m not gonna strike with him. I will give him some credit. He does understand distance and is very precise. But that’s about it.”

Thus, Sean has made an impact huge enough with his striking. After all, getting props from the champion himself is quite a huge deal.

Still, Cejudo believes that Sean’s game is so weak on the ground that his striking will make no difference. He said,

“Put him up against a minor-league wrestler, and minor-league I’m telling you, and we’ll see how good he really is.”

What do you think about Cejudo’s views regarding O’Malley? Do you think he will dominate if the fantasy matchup does materialize?
