Dominick Reyes shook the fighting world when he came in as an underdog and got the closest to beating Jon Jones.
The two locked horns in February 2020 at UFC 247. In the back-and-forth bout, Jones emerged the winner by way of unanimous decision. But, a major part of the UFC Universe felt that “The Devastator” outdid Jones. In fact, 14 out of 21 media outlets were in favor of Dominick’s victory.
Immediately after the bout ended, Jones told Reyes that their rematch would be epic. And that is all that Reyes is looking forward to. He made it very clear that he is thoroughly disappointed with the ruling of the judges, and is aiming for a clear victory whenever the rematch occurs.

However, the rematch might just have to wait. Of course, one of the main reasons for the delay is the widespread coronavirus pandemic. But another pressing reason is Jones’ recent scuffle with the law. Depending upon his punishment, the fixture may not see the light of the day in the near future.
Reyes believes that the UFC, too, should hold Jones accountable for his actions. However, he did clarify that while Jones deserves repercussions, his main concern is beating Jones inside the Octagon. He said,
“That [the rematch] is really my only concern. All the other stuff, honestly as [the] general public, not as a fighter: He should probably be stripped [of his title]. Because you can’t go around doing those things and have no repercussions.”
“I want to beat him up”- Dominick Reyes on delivering justice to Jon Jones
Even though his generic stance on the Jones situation matches that of the others; Jones’ suspension and vacancy of the title; at a personal level, he has a much more unique take. He said,
“As a fighter and as the guy who wants to fight him, I want to be the one to serve him justice. That’s where I am with that. I want to fight him. Just as a sports fan, somebody that’s looking at doing something, there should be repercussions for your actions. As a fighter, I want to beat him up.”
